Wicked!

No, I haven't gone to see the show yet. But I have a fun story about the use of the word.

(This is from yesterday when we went to Cambridge.)

We were sitting outside of King's College, waiting for the rest of our group to meet up with us so we could head toward the train station. It was kind of an open visit day, so there were several students and others around campus passing out pens and bookmarks with information and stuff. We struck up a conversation with one guy (found out later his name was Julian) and he gave us a bunch of bookmarks and a bunch of pens. I guess he had a quota to fill. Anyway, he asked where we were from. Someone said, "America." He kind of scoffed and said, "Well YEAH. But what part?"

Since we're representing BYU, Liz answered that we were from Utah. Julian took a moment to process, said the word "Utah" a few times, then asked, "What happens there? . . . Oh wait, is that where Salt Lake City is?" We affirmed his query, and he instantly shouted in his really attractive accent,

"WICKED! Are you Mormon?!"

We laughed and said yes, and he told us about his best friend who used to be Mormon. He then asked what it was like to be Mormon.

Here were our responses:

"We like it!"
"It's awesome."
"You should try it!"

Unfortunately he declined, saying he doesn't think it's for him. But he still thought it was wicked that he met a bunch of Mormon girls.

  1. I laughed out loud at this, and then because I am at my parents' house I read it aloud to everyone, and they laughed too. My favorite part is "...in his really attractive accent." You make me smile, my dear. Glad you're having such a great experience!
