'Snot fair!

This past Sunday I awoke, all snuggly in my bed,
To discover, alas! I had snot in my head.
I hoped it would clear up throughout the day,
But, dagnabbit! That snot monster just wouldn't go away.

Today, today, it finally came:
The day of reckoning, for this week's horrid name
Is "Finals Week." So, yes, the timing is perfect.
(I sure hope you caught the sarcasm, with all due respect.)

The day before this, I had no tests to take,
So I spent every hour that I was awake
Just thinking and hoping and praying that I
Could get rid of this sickness, or just up and die.

I got lots of fluids and went to bed early.
I even slept in! (But only a little, don't worry.)
Yet all that happened was that it got worse.
The snot won't subside. My head wants to burst.

So I took my first final, with snot in my head,
Wishing that I could be sleeping instead.
I think (and hope and pray) I did well,
But unfortunately it's just too soon to tell.

I've practiced the organ for an hour and three-fourths,
And still have many hours to go. But of course,
All I want to do is curl up on the couch
With a boy and a blanket, a mug to my mouth

That's full of hot chocolate, or even some wassail.
Just something to soothe me, or possibly jostle
The snot from out of my head and chest.
And if it got rid of finals? Well, that'd be the best.
